The FIRST ANNUAL STRONG, FOCUSED & SOON TO BE STUFFED 5K.

This 5k will benefit the Angels & Sparrows Soup Kitchen right here in Huntersville. Sandy Tilley, the founder lives right down the street so it just makes sense!
It's going to be a bit different from other 5ks.
There is no actual COST to race. It's Thanksgiving and we are going to GIVE! You can purchase a t-shirt for $15 if you want. We just need your size and they need to be pre-ordered by November 12th.
All that we ask is that you do one of the following:
• Purchase a $10 gift card from Food Lion or Walmart (This way Sandy can purchase meat) OR
• Bring a bag of chicken or vegetable broth, canned beans (preferably white) OR
• Pantry Raid - Dig into your cabinets and stuff a bag
AND
Bring a snack for POST RACE! After the race, you are welcome to hang out and have a snack. We will have tents set up, possibly some sponsors and definately have some music playing. The "BAR" will be open so BYOB if you want to kick off the long Thanksgiving Holiday with an adult beverage with the group.
This event is for everyone! You dont have to be a member of the Strong & Focused Triathlon Club but we would love to have you part of the club for sure! Bring your families, kids, strollers, & dogs! This is a feel good, fun 5k.
IMPORTANT:
The run course will be run through Wynfield, Wynfield Creek and Wynfield Forest home developments. There will be directional signs so you don't turn the 5k into a 10k. Streets will be open to traffic so we will need to watch out for cars. The run course is through home developments and we will let all the residents know what's going on and invite them to participate.
THIS IS AN UNTIMED and UNSUPPORTED EVENT.

Strong & Focused Triathlon Club
Club Purpose - Very simply, to bring together athletes of all levels who are passionate about triathlons and to provide them with group training opportunities so no one has to train alone.
The name Strong & Focused was inspired by a very close friend of mine who lost his life to pancreatic cancer in 2008. During his battle, he always signed his emails and ended phone conversations with “Strong & Focused”.
While training for IM Florida 2010, I was hit by a truck and dragged some 50 feet while trying to hold onto the driveshaft. I let go, felt the weight of the tires roll up on my thigh, saw flashes on my wife and two kids and passed out. After four minutes, I regained consciousness with the trucks rear wheels resting on my legs. I saw two individuals in my line of sight and screamed to have them move the truck. I pulled myself out from underneath and heard the sound of a helicopter. Long story short, I was in the hospital for 10 days, on the couch for 3 months. Multiple skin grafts, muscular skin flap surgery to cover the hole where my fibula use to be, torn labrum, a few cracked ribs, some stitches and nasty road rash.
I never want anyone to experience what I went through or what I put my family through during that time. It was just as hard on my family as it was for me. During my recovery process, I never doubted that I would train again. If anything I wanted to train even more. I gained a new appreciation for working out and realized that it is such a gift to be able to do so! I met some amazing people during my recovery and we talked about creating a club so people would not have to train alone! This is how Strong & Focused was formed.
The club supports, encourages and embraces all levels of athletes. We invite you to join our triathlon community. We are much more than a triathlon club and look forward to supporting you so you can reach your fitness goals.
